Professor Sze May Ng OBE is a highly respected consultant paediatric endocrinologist and consultant paediatrician of international renown based in Liverpool. She is revered for her expertise in endocrine hormone disorders in children, as well as general paediatrics, growth and puberty. She is also a leading expert in paediatric endocrine disorders, thyroid, puberty, growth and diabetes and has written the books Me and My Hormones and A Guide to Type 1 Diabetes. Additionally she consults on as an expert witness in medicolegal matters.

Professor Ng has an extensive academic background, first qualifying in medicine at the University of Sydney in 1999 before pursuing further training, both in Australia and the north of England. She completed her subspecialty training in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and following this, was awarded the highly prestigious Medical Research Council UK fellowship. She has completed a Master’s in medical science, diabetes and endocrinology and a PhD in child health and neonatal endocrinology at the University of Liverpool. Professor Ng is also an accredited acupuncturist with the British Academy of Western Medical Acupuncture and a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics. Her wealth of expertise and clinical experience have brought her international renown and she was awarded an OBE as part of Her Majesty The Queen’s 2022 Birthday Honours in recognition of her service to people with diabetes, autism and disabilities. Alongside her clinical responsibilities at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust, she is also an associate medical director. Professor Ng sees private patients at Spire Liverpool Hospital.

Additional to her extensive medical education, Professor Ng holds a number of certifications relating to medicolegal matters and healthcare management, including a Master of Laws qualification, an advanced higher diploma in healthcare business and finance and a Master’s in business administration. Professor Ng regularly appears in court as an expert witness, sharing her specialist insight on cases involving general paediatrics, as well as paediatric endocrinology and diabetes. She is also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a senior fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. She holds a number of senior positions in medical education, including as honorary professor at Edge Hill University and honorary associate professor at the University of Liverpool.

Throughout her career, Professor Ng has been awarded a number of prizes in recognition of the excellence of her research and dedication to her practice, including National Clinical Excellence awards in 2018 and 2021 and Diabetes UK’s Arnold Bloom and Mary McKinnon Awards. She has also received the University of Liverpool Alumni Award and is a Diabetes Quality in Care winner. She serves as voluntary chief medical advisor for Action4Diabetes, a UK based charity which aids disadvantaged children who have diabetes in south east Asia.

Professor Ng maintains an active interest in research and holds the esteemed position of officer for research for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and formerly was a training advisor for the College’s endocrinology and diabetes programmes. Professor Ng has been featured in the Lancet, the world's highest impact academic journal, in their In Focus Profile in 2023. She is also editor in chief for Diabetes Care for Children and Young People and regularly serves as a reviewer for the world’s leading academic journals. Additionally, she has published a wealth of her own academic papers throughout her esteemed career. She has also authored several books on topics within her specialist field, including diabetes management and the endocrine system and hormonal conditions. 

Additionally, she has written a book on autism ‘A Journey with Brendan’, providing a first-hand account of bringing up a child with autism, bringing together a wide range of resources and practical advice to help families cope. She is an autism advocate, promoting awareness by regularly contributing to international parenting podcasts and magazines on the topic.

In addition to all aspects of neurosurgery, he is also an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological-related disorders, such as dystonia, tremor and Parkinson’s disease, and has extensive experience with statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) for complex analysis. Alongside his NHS work at Sheffield Teaching Hospital, Mr Yianni currently sees patients at the widely-acclaimed Thornbury Radiosurgery Centre.

Mr Yianni qualified from University College London in 1996, having become a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1992. He undertook his basic surgical training in Oxford and then went on to work as a clinical research fellow in neurosurgery with interest in stereotactic functional neurosurgery from 2001 to 2004 and was awarded a doctorate for his thesis. He acquired invaluable experience in this field as well as in framed and frameless stereotaxy.

He was later appointed a specialist neurosurgical trainee in neurosurgery from 2004 to 2009 and it was during this time that Mr Yianni became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He then worked as a fellow in stereotactic radiosurgery and functional neurosurgery and subsequently appointed as a consultant in 2011. With a specialist interest in stereotactic Gamma knife radiosurgery and stereotactic functional neurosurgery, Mr Yianni joined Thornbury Radiosurgery Centre, renowned for its high level of expertise in Gamma knife surgery.

Besides his neurosurgery practice, Mr Yianni holds an interest in research and regularly publishes his academic work in scientific peer-reviewed journals. He is also the Neurosurgery Theme Lead at Sheffield Clinical Research and Innovation Office.

Dr Paul Blaker is a leading consultant gastroenterologist and general physician based in Tunbridge Wells who specialises in inflammatory bowel disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), dyspepsia, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation, bloating and endoscopy, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

His private practise is based at Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells Hospital and at The Wells Suite at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells (MTW) NHS Trust. His NHS practice is based at MTW, where he is the Deputy Chief of the Medicine and Emergency Care Division and the lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Prior to this, Dr Blaker was the Clinical Director of Specialist Medicine (2019 - 2022) and the Medical Site Lead for Tunbridge Wells Hospital (2017-2019). He is also a JAG-approved endoscopy trainer at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

Dr Blaker is highly qualified, obtaining a first-class BSc in 2000, an MBBS in 2003 and a PhD in Nutritional Science in 2014 from King’s College London. He completed his registrar training in London and the Southeast of England, and gained membership to the Royal College of Physicians in 2006. He later became a Fellow of the College in 2018. Moreover, Dr Blaker is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology.

Dr Blaker is well respected in gastrointestinal research, having spent three years as a research fellow at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London. He investigated biomarkers predicting toxicity and response to thiopurine treatment in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, under the supervision of Prof Jeremy Sanderson, leading to the award of a PhD in 2014. Dr Blaker has also published in various peer-reviewed journals in his chosen field. His PhD experience, in particular, led to his sub-specialist interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease. Dr Blaker continues to help transform IBD services across the Kent and Medway area and also authored the regional IBD pathway in West Kent.

Dr Clague qualified in medicine from University College London in 2002 and went on to undergo further training in the south west of England. After completing his radiology training in Bristol in 2012 and gaining a postgraduate certificate in sports and exercise medicine, he was awarded a year-long fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the University of Alberta, Canada. On his return to the UK, Dr Clague was appointed as a consultant musculoskeletal radiologist at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, where he continues to serve as an educational and clinical supervisor of musculoskeletal trainees on the South Wales radiology training scheme. Dr Clague sees patients in private practice at the esteemed Alliance Medical Cardiff clinic.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Clague has previously represented the Royal College of Radiologists on the National Back Pain and Radiculopathy Pathway clinical group and is a current member of the South Wales Spinal Network working group. Dr Clague routinely teaches radiology trainees and fellow medical professionals and is a member of the British Society of Skeletal Radiologists and the Radiological Society of North America.

His expertise in breast cancer research, innovation and transformation has enabled him to ensure that the multiple international clinical trials he has led throughout his career, have been adopted in clinical practice to improve the outcomes and the experience of people with breast cancer. Professor Wardley currently sees patients at HCA – Leaders in Oncology Care and at Sciensus – Cancer at home. He has extensive experience using system leadership for service innovation.

Professor Wardley believes in research-driving care; ‘a question to answer for every person’. He conceived, developed and led a fully-integrated, patient-focused, research-centred, holistic breast cancer service that directly improves patient care and access to novel treatments. This integrated cancer care system, introduced in Greater Manchester in 2001, has been adopted by NHS England and the European Code of Cancer Practice. In 2020, Professor Wardley founded Outreach Research and Innovation Group to continue developing this model further.

Professor Wardley was a major driver to developing cancer research and services in Greater Manchester and Cheshire, creating collaborative partnerships with international research groups and pharma. He co-founded Manchester Breast Centre and helped to design and develop Manchester Cancer Research Centre, Manchester Academic Health Science Centre and Greater Manchester Cancer. His collaborative approach was also instrumental in forming NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility, a key factor in a successful NIHR Biomedical Research Centre bid and CRUK Major Centre and Manchester Academic Health Science Centre funding.

Professor Wardley has educated two generations of medical oncologists and breast cancer specialists through education schemes from the European Society of Medical Oncology, the European School of Oncology, the Association of Cancer Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians. He is an active member of various international trial co-operatives.
